Charles Bartlett Mount Fuji Print | Shoji 1916 Japanese Landscape Woodblock | Blue & Coral Mountain Wall Art
Le Mont Fuji depuis Shoji · 精進からの富士 (Shōji kara no Fuji)
At first light, Mount Fuji floats above the world. Its snowy peak blushes pink in the dawn as a pale sun rises beside it, while below, a vast sea of mist and cloud rolls away in soft turquoise and cream. A distant ridge breaks through the haze, and in the foreground, warm coral hills and teal slopes lined with tiny dark trees lead the eye towards the great mountain.
This is Shoji, a woodblock print made in 1916 by Charles William Bartlett, an English painter who travelled to Japan and worked with the publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō, one of the first Western artists to join the shin-hanga movement. Viewed from near Lake Shōji, one of the five lakes at Fuji's feet, it captures the stillness of the mountain with the softest graded colour and visible woodgrain texture, finished with Bartlett's CWB monogram and the publisher's seal.
It is a print for calm, quiet spaces. Hang it above a bed, a sofa or a desk, where its gentle blues and warm coral bring a sense of space and peace. A thoughtful gift for lovers of Japan, travellers, walkers and anyone who collects vintage Japanese prints.
A landscape-format print whose pale blue, cream and coral palette sits beautifully with natural wood, linen, rattan and Japandi interiors.
