A single branch of white blossom reaches in from the edge of a deep slate-blue sky. The petals are soft as paper, their centres dusted with pale gold, and a bumblebee drifts towards them, the only movement in a still spring moment.

Painted in the spirit of Van Gogh's blossom studies and the Japanese prints he loved, this is a study in restraint. Most of the canvas is left to the sky, so the eye rests there before finding the flowers and the bee. It feels like early morning in an orchard, before anyone else is awake.
