Hilma af Klint Pink Flower Art Print | Mauve Abstract Floral Wall Art

A single enormous pink flower opens across the top of this canvas — five heart-shaped petals around a small yellow centre — while beneath it loops of cream script unfurl across a dusty mauve ground, studded with discs of blue, yellow, olive and deep navy.

It comes from The Ten Largest, the 1907 series in which Hilma af Klint traced the stages of a human life across ten vast canvases. The looping line was her own shorthand: she believed she was recording a language rather than decorating a surface, which is why the whole thing reads a little like a page of handwriting from somewhere else.

The colour is unusually sophisticated for something so joyful — the mauve keeps the pink from turning sweet, and the small hits of navy and olive give it depth. It's lovely in a bedroom or nursery, and works beautifully against warm white walls with cane, pale wood and linen.
