The Dove, No. 2 is one of Hilma af Klint's most quietly extraordinary images. A vast pale disc splits down the middle — blush pink on one side, cream on the other — with a soft heart shape at its centre and a twisting helix running the full height of the composition. At the base, a fan of rainbow colour opens out against grey and deep brown.

She painted it in 1915 as part of her Paintings for the Temple, a body of work she believed she was receiving rather than inventing. The split down the centre is deliberate: light and dark, spirit and matter, held in one circle.

As a print it is remarkably easy to live with. The palette is almost entirely soft — chalky pink, cream, pale grey, butter yellow — with just that flash of rainbow to stop it going flat. It's calm at any size and looks especially good in a bedroom or a quiet corner, against warm neutrals, oak, cane and linen.
